GBA = Zero Tolerance for bullying

Anti-Bullying Campaigns

Global Bilingual Academy School (GBA) has a zero tolerance policy for bullying.

Part of our mission statement is to

  • Provide a learning environment that is safe, orderly and positively geared to making students feel valued, challenged, supported and encouraged to pursue self-discovery and become lifelong inquiry-based learners.

Our plan to uphold this policy:

  • Strong, consistent and effective discipline rules and procedures
  • Administration, teaching staff, support staff reinforce, model and support zero tolerance policy for bullying
  • Yearly Anti-bullying month

Year 1 – 2014 – 2015

During our first academic year, GBA community participated in an anti-bullying campaign during the month of December 2014. The stated objectives were:

  1. To make the anti-bullying posters and slogans visible around the school and in classes.
  2. Students can differentiate a “Buddy” behavior and a “Bully” behavior
  3. To have a common gesture and word to stop bullying, among students, teachers, staff as well as parents: “Hand stretched, palm up and say “Stop”.

Year 2 – 2015 – 2016

In our second year, GBA decided to follow the international community and make the month of October also the GBA Anti-Bullying Month. During that month, Homeroom Teachers and Specialists reinforced the school values of tolerance, respect and friendship in their classes. Teachers announced it in their newsletter; 1 or 2 activities each were included each week in their lesson plans.

  • An activities package was shared with the whole staff.
  • The story of “One” was read to all classes.
  • Class visits to reinforce the concepts learned and enroll a student ‘Task force’ were made. Students who stood up to bullies got to wear an ‘Anti-bullying” T-shirt for that day in their classes. They were the Anti-Bullying police.
  • A guest speakers came to the speak to the students

Students were invited to present these activities during the monthly Assembly on November 4th 2015 in order to showcase what they have learned during this month.

Our goal for this year is first to reinforce what was seeded during our first two years. Second to involve our students in anti-bullying awareness by having selected students visiting other classes and for short 5 minute-presentations about anti-bullying. Third to develop our graduating elementary class’s responsibility and introduce a student’s mediation program. Experts in the field will come and discuss anti-bullying issues with students and parents. Actively working together to promote respect and conflict resolution skills, we will provide our students with a safe and nurturing environment where they will strive.

Anti-bullying activities for Kindergarten – Grade 1

Trace and cut the hand. Write in each finger the steps to prevent bullying.

Have the students each make a heart and fold it in different ways. Then, students open the heart and the teacher explains how the heart represents the feelings. The folded marks represent the feelings, like sad, angry, uncomfortable, and so forth. You can have the students write how they feel or meaningful words that define bullying.

This activity involves handprints of all students with the sign of “Take a Stand Lend a Hand Stop Bullying “(Pinterest, 2016).

The puzzle template represents the concept of all working together to prevent bullying. Students cut the pattern using their favorite color and write a message expressing their feelings against bullying or their name. The teacher collects them and place them on the wall.

The result looks something like this.

Anti-Bullying Bracelets

Anti-Bullying bracelets made by the students with yarn and beads. A note written by the students with words like respect, kindness, friendship, and so forth.

Anti-Bullying Stop Sign Activity

  1. Cut out a big paper in the sign of a stop sign
  2. Explain to the kids that this is the STOP BULLYING STOP SIGN and explain what bullying is in a way they will understand.
  3. Once you have explained it to them, you will all make a contract to agree to not bully one another and to all be friends.
  4. Once they have agreed, they make a handprint on the sign using paint.
  5. You can then display it in the classroom to remind them of the promise they have made to all be friends and not to bully.

Ladybug Activity

Explain the friendly ladybug. Make cutouts and have students write together their feelings. Stick it together and display in class.

Be A Friend Activity

Anti-bullying activity for Grade 1 – 3

Lesson: Read the story “Enemy Pie” to the class. There is a version online: type in “Enemy Pie Storyline” into the search bar on YouTube. Before reading the book, talk about the word enemy with the class. Then talk about friendship and what makes a good friend. After reading the story students can make their own “Friendship Pies” with ingredients that make a great friend. Examples: sharing, kind words, helping. Students can also complete a sheet where they write about what they love about their friends. They can draw a picture of themselves and their friends above the picture. 2nd and 3rd grade can use the problem and solution paper and the venn diagram paper included in this packet. There is also a pie template in the packet. Each child can color and create their own friendship pie!

Anti-bullying activity for Grade 3 – 5

Meaning of Fair

Materials: Band-aids (at least 2)


  1. Gather the students on the carpet.
  2. Tell students that you are going to teach them about the meaning of the word “Fair.” Write “Fair” on the board.
  3. Ask two students to volunteer.
  4. Have the two students that volunteer stand on either side of you.
  5. Say that one of the students cut his finger, so you are going to give him a band-aid. Place the band-aid on the student’s finger.
  6. Say that the other student broke his leg. So to be fair, you are going to give him a band-aid. Place the band-aid on the student’s finger.
  7. Ask students if this is fair?
  8. If they say no, talk about how you gave them both the same thing, so it must be fair! (This will cause some confusion, so guidance may be needed)
  9. Explain to students that FAIR does not mean everyone gets the same thing. FAIR means that everyone gets what they need.
  10. You can give each student a band-aid as a reminder of the lesson (optional)
